Shrink to Life

Personal message by Coach Carey:

I have been fat.
I have been thin.
I have been an exercise fanatic.
I have been someone who loves nothing more than sleeping.
I have been a sad, exhausted, bitter, too-tired, too-lazy, too-unmotivated to lose weight, depressive.
I have been a happy, fit, full of energy, full of life, go-getter.

I have been loving and kind.
I have been angry and mean.

I can admit that when my weight goes up, it has made me feel trapped from enjoying my life.
I can admit that when I’m thin and healthy, I am at my best. I am my kindest and most open. I am happy.

It’s not just about the way I look, it’s about the way I feel.
I have lost weight and said to myself, this is it. The weight will never come back and I will always stay at my healthiest…
and then I’ve gained the weight again.

I have finally found a way to break the cycle, to end the roller coasters.
I want to share my new found health and zest for life with everyone I know.

It’s easy to feel trapped when you battle extra weight.
The cycle of losing and gaining weight is frustrating and can easily spiral out of control.
Put an end to the roller coaster once and for all.
Free yourself and see how much fun life can be.

TreeUmph! Adventure Course >>> the ground is overrated…

treeumph

TreeUmph! is the epitome of the main philosophy of Magic Sandbox.   A big playground for not only adults but for everyone of all ages.  A way to challenge yourself; come out of your own shell; gain confidence; fight your fears; to open the circle of communication and camaraderie among family, friends, and strangers, and more.  It’s not just climbing in the trees, it’s not just a playground, it’s a place of personal discovery.  Screen Shot 2013-07-24 at 4.27.59 PM

When I was on each course, I was sharing with my fiancé and our group that each obstacle is like our own personal challenges in life.  Sure, we may help each other get across them, offer guidance on how to tackle them, but it is really up to us as the individual to figure it out on our own.

Safety First: Everyone starts out on one of two Harness Courses, where you’ll learn the rules of the park, how to use your climbing gear and our mandatory safety procedures.

Pay Attention: After a brief tutorial, there will be a test!

We’ll ask you to demonstrate what you learned on a low, short course by climbing ladders, crossing a tight rope, completing a monkey bridge and descending a ladder to the ground. Complete your tasks while following all of the safety rules, and our guide will give you the green light to go full-speed ahead on the other courses.

This Is Your Body on Processed Food

This Is Your Body on Processed Food.

Artist Stefani Bardin, TEDxManhattan 2011 Fellow, shows us her latest project — using a “smartpill” to reveal how we digest differently processed foods.

Stefani produces videos and immersive, interactive installations that explores the influences of corporate culture and industrial food production. Her current project works with gastroenterologist Dr. Braden Kuo at Harvard University where they just completed the first ever clinical study to use the M2A™ and SmartPill devices that look at how the human body responds to processed versus whole foods. She is an Honorary Resident at Eyebeam Art +Technology Center in New York and teaches in the School of Art, Media and Technology at Parsons The New School for Design and in the Food Studies Program at The New School for Public Engagement.
